Ways to give money to THE CMT

GIFT AID If you are a UK taxpayer and pay tax you can donate money to the CMT by cash, cheque, postal order, direct Debit, standing order or even euros! By making a declaration (which you don’t have to sign), giving your name and address and saying the donation is made within the GIFT AID SCHEME we are able to claim back the tax that you have paid on the donation made. So for instance on a donation of £20 we can claim back £5.64 making your donation worth £25.64. That’s an increase of 28.2%. You can become a member and pay your membership under this scheme too. Taxpayers who pay tax at 40% can claim gift aid tax relief on their tax returns.

PAYROLL GIVING - You can donate weekly or monthly through your wages. You ask your employer to deduct the amount from your gross wage (this means your tax bill is reduced) and this money goes to an inland revenue agency who pay it to us. The national insurance is however not altered!

GIFTS OF SHARES OR SECURITIES - it is possible to also gift certain shares and securities to the charity - best give the treasurer a ring and he can tell you more on this.

INHERITANCE TAX - you don’t have to pay it - it’s the only voluntary tax and with planning you can pay none! Basically any outright gifts to the CMT either during your life or in your will are free of any inheritance tax. This could reduce your estate to below when tax might be due - currently £255,000, so saving tax having to be paid.

Jet Petrol SMILE card - apply for a card and use it every time you get petrol - currently 1p for every litre bought goes to the card which you can later pay to the CMT as a charity.

TAX REBATE - on your tax return you can donate this straight to the CMT as we are a registered charity.
